GUNSHIP BATTLE: Helicopter 3D

I must confess that military equipment simulators never interested me very much... Oh wait. Yeah, I did play SU-27 Flanker and LHX some time in the distant past. However, once I got a proper gaming PC I focused on more story driven games than bone dry military stuff. So in part, my total lack of enthusiasm for Gunship Battle is due to my general lack of enthusiasm for the theme.

In Gunship Battle, you are arcadefully controlling an attack helicopter through various combat missions. I use that invented word because this is very much an arcade style game. Your helicopter can move forward and backwards, turn and change elevation depending how you angle the device. Elevation is mostly unimportant though, as obstacles that might be in your way are quickly flown over automatically. The helicopter is basically sliding over the terrain as there are no flight mechanics in the works. This brings me to my other gripe, the controls. The motion controls could have been easily exchanged for digital ones, as most targets stay or move about at the same level.

Aerial combat exists, but it is vastly underrepresented. Overall, there is a decent amount of variety between enemies. We have gun towers, tanks, infantry, rocket emplacements, naval units and other helicopters. Yet, they all feel mostly the same as they're being mowed down by your sweeping runs. Admittedly, a real gunship pilot probably doesn't feel any different when fires on a tank convoy (wish there was such a thing in Gunship Battle) or on a base. Yet, considering the arcade nature of the game, the devs could have probably done a better job at representing enemies so that vehicles don't all look like squirming black bugs.

Gunship Battle

You might get the impression that I don't like anything about Gunship Battle, and you'd be right. The game is not broken, it just fails to be interesting at all. It's neither challenging, although it could get later. However I have gone through the first mission ark without a sweat and you can't say that was just an introduction, since there's not much to be introduced to.

Regarding 'player' models, helicopters vary in size, type and armament, and you'll eventually get to fly some planes. Even so I highly doubt there will be collisions in these cases.

Well if gameplay isn't stellar, whet else is there? I'll tell you, nothing to interest me. However, you might get some kicks shooting at slow moving targets while awkwardly holding your device. Cheers!
